During the 41st Human Rights Commission Council meeting, VAAGDHARA along with partners organisation Action on Smoking & Health (ASH) and Shivi Development Society (SDS) held a meeting with the United Nations and urge to make special efforts to curb the harmful effect of tobacco on Human Rights. Prohibition of tobacco will stop the Violation of Human Rights. Use of Tobacco in smoke or smoke-free state is totally contrary to Human Rights because at the grassroots level it is a sponsored nature of the violation of rights of children and economic rights. During the meeting, officials of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Dr Nicholas and Laurent Huber said that human rights are being constantly violated by tobacco companies. Session Director Meera Bharadwaj told that, in the special discussion, it has been accepted that the consumption of tobacco is the violation of rights of children, tribal and backward areas. In coming times, the issue of tobacco prohibition must be specifically raised by the Human Rights Council.

Mr Jayesh Joshi, raising this issue on the world's biggest platform, described tobacco as an important tool for human rights violation and the violation of rights of tribal children. He told that the policymakers are deliberately misled by tobacco companies in order to increase their business by increasing the use of tobacco, and the violation of effective laws has been continuous, with which the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO-FCTC) and the COTPA ACT in India does not have effective implementation in the grassroots and remote areas which is the violation of  Human Rights.  He also informed that on the occasion of World Tobacco Free Day the present government of Rajasthan State in the country got impressed by the continuous efforts of the VAAGDHARA Institution and Chief Minister Shri Ashok Gehlot announced that in Rajasthan the production, storage, distribution and advertisement of e-cigarette have been fully banned to which all the members present there appreciated and applauded. On which Jayesh Joshi through this platform delivered that there is a need to make continuous efforts to free the families from economic slavery and to increase their livelihood opportunities.
