Farmers diversify their crop basket to gain additional sources of income and financial security with the efforts of Manghad wadi Vikas Pariyojana, an associate organization of the Vaagdhara
Devilal Masar is a resident of Nayagaon village in Aanandpuri block in Banswara district Rajasthan. He is a marginal farmer and owns 6 bighas of land. Until a few years ago, he practiced traditional farming and planted traditional crops like paddy, maize, and gram. However, these crops did not yield enough income to take care of her family’s basic necessities, pushing the family slowly and inexorably into poverty each year. The Seven members' family income was only INR 25,000 per annum up until 2018. Prosperity smiled on Devilal when the Chairman of Village Development and Child right committee's an associate organization of Vaagdhara implemented the Tribal Development Fund Wadi Programme in the village, which he soon joined.
The Tribal Development Fund is a program supported by NABARD for the plantation of fruit orchards (mango with guava) on 1 bigha of land. The plantation is done on otherwise unused land (due to undulating topography), to help farmers optimise their resources and income, to lift themselves out of poverty. The orchard plantation also helps in protecting natural resources and the environment.
Devilalji actively participated in training sessions on agriculture conducted by the program team and exposure visits to other farms to learn improved farming practices. In June 2018, he started cultivating a wadi on an acre of land. With support from the Tribal Development Fund for Wadi Programme, he was able to plant 20 mango trees and 20 guava trees and 20 lemon trees.
In 2018-19, after attending a few training sessions on methodical agriculture practices, he gained confidence and decided to cultivate vegetables in the wadi as intercrops. He started with tomato and brinjal in 1 bigha of the open field area of the wadi. Harvested the crops for two seasons, now earning around INR 50,000.
With the steady growth and success in vegetable cultivation, Devilal approach toward agriculture changed. He invested more time and effort into enhancing it and began precision farming with the improved practices taught during the training sessions. He installed drip irrigation and adopted mulching technology in 1 bigha land with support from the program team. he cultivated seasonal vegetables and fruits like tomato, chilly, brinjal, cabbage and watermelon in both Kharif and Rabi seasons. Devilalji was able to earn INR 86,546 just from the sales of vegetables and fruits from the 1 bigha of his land — setting a strong example of resilience and consistency for everyone around her. He reinvested part of the additional income saved in fencing her field with barbed wire to protect her crops from being eaten and trampled on by wandering cattle.
The wadi model has worked well for Devilal and 500 more farmers in Aanandpuri, Rajasthan. It has helped them diversify their crop and income sources. The model has also helped enhance their socioeconomic condition and pulled them out of the slow slide to poverty.
लगाई वाडी बढाई आमदनी
दक्षिणी राजस्थान के जनजातीय क्षेत्र के सीमांत किसान वागधारा के प्रयासों से आय और वित्तीय सुरक्षा के अतिरिक्त स्रोत प्राप्त करने के लिए अपनी फसल की पध्दती तंत्र में विविधता लाते हैं।
देविलाल मसार राजस्थान के बाँसवाडा जिला, आनंदपुरी ब्लाँक नयागाव के रहने वाले हैं। देविलाल एक सीमांत किसान हैं और उनके पास 6 बिघा जमीन है। कुछ साल पहले तक, वह पारंपरिक खेती करते थे और, धान, मक्का, गेहूँ और चना जैसी पारंपरिक फ़सलें लगाते थे। हालाँकि, इन फसलों से उसके परिवार की बुनियादी ज़रूरतों का ख्याल रखने के लिए पर्याप्त आय नहीं हुई, जिससे परिवार को धीरे-धीरे और हर साल गरीबी में धकेल दिया गया। 2018 तक सात सदस्यीय परिवार की आय केवल रूपये 25 ,000 प्रति वर्ष थी। देविलाल मसार पर समृद्धि तब मुस्कुराई जब वागधारा गठित ग्राम विकास एवं बाल अधिकार समिति के अध्यक्ष बने और समय समय पर संस्था द्वारा दिए गये प्रशिक्षण में सम्मिलित होते गये और आजिविका बढांने के गुर शिकते गये।
नयागाव गाँव में वागधारा के सहयोग से मानगढ़ जनजातीय विकास वाड़ी कार्यक्रम लागू किया, जिसमें देविलाल जल्द ही शामिल हो गए।
वागधारा की मानगढ़ वाडी विकास परीयोजना के तहत 2 बिघा कृषी भूमि पर आम, अमरुद, निम्बू, फलदार पौधो का रोपण किया गया ताकि किसानों को अपने संसाधनों और आय का अनुकूलन करने में मदद मिल सके, और वे खुद को गरीबी से बाहर निकाल सकें। बाग वृक्षारोपण प्राकृतिक संसाधनों और पर्यावरण की रक्षा में भी मदद करता है।
देविलाल ने वागधारा के कार्यक्रम द्वारा आयोजित कृषि पर प्रशिक्षण सत्रों में सक्रिय रूप से भाग लिया और उन्नत कृषि पद्धतियों को सीखने के लिए अन्य खेतों का दौरा किया। जून 2018 में, उसने दो बिघा भूमि में एक वाडी बाग की खेती शुरू की। मानगढ़ वाडी विकास परीयोजना कार्यक्रम के तहत वह केसर किस्म के 20 आम के पेड़ और 20 निम्बू 20 अमरूद के पेड़ लगा पाये।
दिशा में परिवर्तन
2018-19 में, पद्धतिगत कृषि पद्धतियों पर कुछ प्रशिक्षण सत्रों में भाग लेने के बाद, उन्होंने आत्मविश्वास हासिल किया और वाडी में इंटरक्रॉप्स के रूप में सब्जियों की खेती करने का फैसला किया। उन्होंने वाडी के खुले क्षेत्र के एक बिघा में टमाटर और बैंगन के साथ शुरुआत की। उसने दो मौसमों में फ़सलों की कटाई की और लगभग 50000/- रुपये कमाए।
सब्जी की खेती में लगातार वृद्धि और सफलता के साथ, देविलाल का कृषि के प्रति दृष्टिकोण बदल गया। उसने इसे बढ़ाने में अधिक समय और प्रयास लगाया और प्रशिक्षण सत्रों के दौरान सिखाई गई बेहतर सच्ची खेती की प्रथाओं के साथ सटीक खेती शुरू की। उन्होंने प्रोग्राम टीम के समर्थन से 0.5 बिघा भूमि में ड्रिप सिंचाई स्थापित की और मल्चिंग तकनीक को अपनाया। उन्होंने खरीफ और रबी दोनों मौसमों में टमाटर, मिर्च, बैंगन, गोभी और तरबूज जैसे मौसमी सब्जियों और फलों की खेती की। देविलाल ने अपनी जमीन से सब्जियों और फलों की अपनी दुकान लगाकर बिक्री से सिर्फ 86,546 रुपये कमाए - अपने आसपास के सभी लोगों के लिए स्थिरता का एक मजबूत उदाहरण स्थापित किया। अपनी फसल को आवारा मवेशियों द्वारा खाए जाने और रौंदने से बचाने के लिए उसने अपने खेत में कंटीले तार से बाड़ लगाने में बचाई गई अतिरिक्त आय का कुछ हिस्सा फिर से निवेश किया।
नाबार्ड एवं वागधारा के मानगढ़ वाड़ी विकास परियोजना ने देविलाल मसार और राजस्थान के बासवाडा जिले के आनंदपुरी ब्लाँक के 500 किसानों के आजिविका बढाने पर लिए अच्छा काम किया है। इससे उन्हें अपनी फसल और आय के स्रोतों में विविधता लाने में मदद मिली है। देविलाल ने उनकी सामाजिक-आर्थिक स्थिति को बढ़ाने में भी मदद की है और उन्हें गरीबी की धीमी गति से बाहर निकाला है और अपने बच्चों को स्वच्छ चिकित्सा पाठ्यक्रम में दाखिला लिया हैं।
