Anita Damor, a farmer from Amlipara village in Rajasthan's Banswara district, is a model of progress in eco-friendly and self-reliant farming. Her approach was highly praised when she spoke at a national conference on village self-reliance.

During a recent visit, I met with Anita and a dozen other women. I quickly realized that while Anita is a leader, the entire group practices and cooperates in the same way. A key characteristic of their farming is their commitment to natural methods. They use no chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or weedicides, instead preparing their own organic manure on the farm.
