Twenty Six years old Pushpa, a resident of Ghatol village in Banswara district, is deeply engrossed with a smart phone, searching for online products, healthcare tips, etc.
Ms.Pushpa joined I-Saathi project three months back and attended the training program. The program includes an awareness module coupled with hands-on training modules aimed at teaching women how to use the Internet, including through mobile devices and tablets. Pushpa was not able to use smartphones and tablets. At the training, she used a smartphone for the first time, learning how to swipe, curious to see a phone working without any buttons. She is now an expert in the internet and has taught around 420 women of the village about digital literacy. She visited 3 to 4 times to each of these participants and ensured their learning.
From shopping and healthcare to cooking and agriculture, I have learned a lot from the Internet and I am now teaching other women. said Pushpa. She said “???? ???? ??? ??? ?? ??? ????? ?? ?? ?? ?? ???? ??? “she was very happy and excited to show her wrist watch which she purchased from Snapdeal. She is also educating other tribal women for online shopping sites.
I-Saathi, has been transforming lives of many women like Pushpa in the villages of Banswara (Rajasthan). The internet, which seemed a distant dream to village women, is now just a touch away.
While the Internet users are growing at 56 percent, the growth rate of women Internet users is only 27 percent in rural India.
