Tribal community members present a "Swaraj Aagrah Patra" to the Governor

In the series of events to conclude the 21 days long Swaraj Sandesh Samwad Padyatra by the tribal community of Rajasthan the representatives of Vaagdhara organization which facilitated the Padyatra (walk on foot) met the hon’ble governor and handed over a memorandum “Swaraj Aagrah Patra” on behalf of the tribal community.

Mr. Jayesh Joshi, Secretary Vaagdhara, Mr. Sunny Sebastian, former Vice Chancellor of Hari Dev Joshi University, Mr. Sukhdev Singh Burdak, member of the ‘Kisan Ayog’ and Dr. Sudeep Sharma from Vaagdhara urged him to consider the requests made by the community to protect and safeguard their sovereignty which is being harmed by the dominance of the market forces in all segments of their culture and lifestyle.

It’s noteworthy that the governor has the authority to oversee the governance in the tribal areas in the state.

On this occasion, Jayesh Joshi apprised the Governor in detail about the working and the works being done by the organization with and for the tribal community, including the three core themes - true farming - true childhood and true Swaraj to ensure sustainable livelihood through traditional farming methods, ensuring the participation of the villagers in the functioning of the gram panchayat and protecting child rights.

Mr. Joshi took the privilege to brief the Governor on the Swaraj Sandesh Samwad Padyatra. He told the Governor that the 500 KM long Padyatra was undertaken by the community which commenced on the birth anniversary of Vinoba Bhave on September 11, and culminated in Jaipur after 21 days on the auspicious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, 2nd of October. He said that it was a pleasant experience to feel the existence of Swaraj in almost all villages in one form or the other.

He said that the tribal community is the real practitioner of Swaraj. This is the best example of a sovereign society and lifestyle. But the degenerating ecosystem is causing a severe harm to all this. He also brought to the table the objectives of the Swaraj Padyatra. He said that the community was facing a challenge in regard to protecting and safeguarding its sovereignty on all fronts be it agriculture, food and nutrition, conserving water and soil, or their cultural and ideological identity.
While urging the governor to look into these requests, Jayesh Joshi also presented the indigenous solutions to these issues. He also extended his kind invitation to the Governor to visit Vaagdhara and meet Janjatiya Swaraj Sangthan, working with the tribal communities of Southern Rajasthan.
